Despite the recent success, current S2ST models still suffer from distinct degradation in noisy environments and fail to translate visual speech (i.e., the movement of lips and teeth). In this work, we present AV-TranSpeech, the first audio-visual speech-to-speech (AV-S2ST) translation model without relying on intermediate text. AV-TranSpeech complements the audio stream with visual information to promote system robustness and opens up a host of practical applications: dictation or dubbing archival films. To mitigate the data scarcity with limited parallel AV-S2ST data, we 1) explore self-supervised pre-training with unlabeled audio-visual data to learn contextual representation, and 2) introduce cross-modal distillation with S2ST models trained on the audio-only corpus to further reduce the requirements of visual data. Experimental results on two language pairs demonstrate that AV-TranSpeech outperforms audio-only models under all settings regardless of the type of noise. With low-resource audio-visual data (10h, 30h), cross-modal distillation yields an improvement of 7.6 BLEU on average compared with baselines. However, for the low-data resource domains, training a high-quality ASR remains to be a challenging task. In this work, we propose a novel iterative way of improving both the ASR and VC models. We first train an ASR model which is used to ensure content preservation while training a VC model. In the next iteration, the VC model is used as a data augmentation method to further fine-tune the ASR model and generalize it to diverse speakers. By iteratively leveraging the improved ASR model to train VC model and vice-versa, we experimentally show improvement in both the models. Our proposed framework outperforms the ASR and one-shot VC baseline models on English singing and Hindi speech domains in subjective and objective evaluations in low-data resource settings.【6】 LoopBoxes -- Evaluation of a Collaborative Accessible Digital Musical Instrument标题:LoopBox--协同可访问数字乐器的评测链接:https://arxiv.org/abs/2305.14875作者:Andreas Förster,Alarith Uhde,Mathias Komesker,Christina Komesker,Irina Schmidt机构:Technische Universität Berlin, University of Furtwangen, University of Siegen, Siegen, Germany, imui e.V., Cologne, Germany备注:10 pages, 9 figures, to be published in the Proceedings of the International Conference on New Interfaces for Musical Expression (NIME'23)摘要:LoopBoxes是一种无障碍数字乐器,旨在为有特殊教育需求(SEN)的儿童创建直观的循环音乐制作。 LoopBoxes is an accessible digital musical instrument designed to create an intuitive access to loop based music making for children with special educational needs (SEN). This paper describes the evaluation of the instrument in the form of a pilot study during a music festival in Berlin, Germany, as well as a case study with children and music teachers in a SEN school setting. As a cross-modal task, end-to-end ST is difficult to train with limited data. Existing methods often try to transfer knowledge from machine translation (MT), but their performances are restricted by the modality gap between speech and text. In this paper, we propose Cross-modal Mixup via Optimal Transport CMOT to overcome the modality gap. We find the alignment between speech and text sequences via optimal transport and then mix up the sequences from different modalities at a token level using the alignment. Experiments on the MuST-C ST benchmark demonstrate that CMOT achieves an average BLEU of 30.0 in 8 translation directions, outperforming previous methods. Further analysis shows CMOT can adaptively find the alignment between modalities, which helps alleviate the modality gap between speech and text. Deep Learning (DL) has improved the performance of SER models by improving model complexity. However, designing DL architectures requires prior experience and experimental evaluations. Encouragingly, Neural Architecture Search (NAS) allows automatic search for an optimum DL model. In particular, Differentiable Architecture Search (DARTS) is an efficient method of using NAS to search for optimised models. In this paper, we propose DARTS for a joint CNN and LSTM architecture for improving SER performance. Our choice of the CNN LSTM coupling is inspired by results showing that similar models offer improved performance. While SER researchers have considered CNNs and RNNs separately, the viability of using DARTs jointly for CNN and LSTM still needs exploration. Experimenting with the IEMOCAP dataset, we demonstrate that our approach outperforms best-reported results using DARTS for SER.【11】 Connecting Multi-modal Contrastive Representations标题:连接多模式对比表征链接:https://arxiv.org/abs/2305.14381作者:Zehan Wang,Yang Zhao,Xize Cheng,Haifeng Huang,Jiageng Liu,Li Tang,Linjun Li,Yongqi Wang,Aoxiong Yin,Ziang Zhang,Zhou Zhao机构:Zhejiang University备注:Demos are available at \url{this https URL}摘要:多模态对比表征(MCR)学习旨在将不同的模态编码到语义对齐的共享空间中。 Multi-modal Contrastive Representation (MCR) learning aims to encode different modalities into a semantically aligned shared space. This paradigm shows remarkable generalization ability on numerous downstream tasks across various modalities. However, the reliance on massive high-quality data pairs limits its further development on more modalities. This paper proposes a novel training-efficient method for learning MCR without paired data called Connecting Multi-modal Contrastive Representations (C-MCR). Specifically, given two existing MCRs pre-trained on (A, B) and (B, C) modality pairs, we project them to a new space and use the data from the overlapping modality B to aligning the two MCRs in the new space. Meanwhile, since the modality pairs (A, B) and (B, C) are already aligned within each MCR, the connection learned by overlapping modality can also be transferred to non-overlapping modality pair (A, C). To unleash the potential of C-MCR, we further introduce a semantic-enhanced inter- and intra-MCR connection method. We first enhance the semantic consistency and completion of embeddings across different modalities for more robust alignment. Then we utilize the inter-MCR alignment to establish the connection, and employ the intra-MCR alignment to better maintain the connection for inputs from non-overlapping modalities. We take the field of audio-visual contrastive learning as an example to demonstrate the effectiveness of C-MCR. We connect pre-trained CLIP and CLAP models via texts to derive audio-visual contrastive representations. Remarkably, without using any paired audio-visual data and further tuning, C-MCR achieves state-of-the-art performance on six datasets across three audio-visual downstream tasks.【12】 Zero-shot personalized lip-to-speech synthesis with face image based voice control标题:基于人脸图像语音控制的Zero-Shot个性化唇语合成链接:https://arxiv.org/abs/2305.14359作者:Zheng-Yan Sheng,Yang Ai,Zhen-Hua Ling机构:National Engineering Research Center of Speech and Language Information Processing, University of Science and Technology of China, Hefei, P.R.China备注:ICASSP 2023摘要:唇语音合成(Lip2Speech),预测相应的语音从说话的人脸图像,已经见证了显着的进展,各种模型和训练策略在一系列的独立研究。 Lip-to-Speech (Lip2Speech) synthesis, which predicts corresponding speech from talking face images, has witnessed significant progress with various models and training strategies in a series of independent studies. However, existing studies can not achieve voice control under zero-shot condition, because extra speaker embeddings need to be extracted from natural reference speech and are unavailable when only the silent video of an unseen speaker is given. In this paper, we propose a zero-shot personalized Lip2Speech synthesis method, in which face images control speaker identities. A variational autoencoder is adopted to disentangle the speaker identity and linguistic content representations, which enables speaker embeddings to control the voice characteristics of synthetic speech for unseen speakers. Furthermore, we propose associated cross-modal representation learning to promote the ability of face-based speaker embeddings (FSE) on voice control. Extensive experiments verify the effectiveness of the proposed method whose synthetic utterances are more natural and matching with the personality of input video than the compared methods. To our best knowledge, this paper makes the first attempt on zero-shot personalized Lip2Speech synthesis with a face image rather than reference audio to control voice characteristics.【13】 Diffusion-Based Audio Inpainting标题:基于扩散的音频修复链接:https://arxiv.org/abs/2305.15266作者:Eloi Moliner,Vesa Välimäki机构:Acoustics Lab, Department of Information and Communications Engineering, Aalto University, Espoo, Finland备注:Submitted for publication to the Journal of Audio Engineering Society on January 30th, Audio inpainting aims to reconstruct missing segments in corrupted recordings. Previous methods produce plausible reconstructions when the gap length is shorter than about 100\;ms, but the quality decreases for longer gaps. This paper explores recent advancements in deep learning and, particularly, diffusion models, for the task of audio inpainting. The proposed method uses an unconditionally trained generative model, which can be conditioned in a zero-shot fashion for audio inpainting, offering high flexibility to regenerate gaps of arbitrary length. An improved deep neural network architecture based on the constant-Q transform, which allows the model to exploit pitch-equivariant symmetries in audio, is also presented. The performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated through objective and subjective metrics for the task of reconstructing short to mid-sized gaps. The results of a formal listening test show that the proposed method delivers a comparable performance against state-of-the-art for short gaps, while retaining a good audio quality and outperforming the baselines for the longest gap lengths tested, 150\;ms and 200\;ms. This work helps improve the restoration of sound recordings having fairly long local disturbances or dropouts, which must be reconstructed.【14】 Incorporating Ultrasound Tongue Images for Audio-Visual Speech Enhancement through Knowledge Distillation标题:利用知识提炼结合超声舌象增强视听语音链接:https://arxiv.org/abs/2305.14933作者:Rui-Chen Zheng,Yang Ai,Zhen-Hua Ling机构:National Engineering Research Center of Speech and Language Information Processing, University of Science and Technology of China, Hefei, P. This paper proposes further incorporating ultrasound tongue images to improve lip-based AV-SE systems' performance. Knowledge distillation is employed at the training stage to address the challenge of acquiring ultrasound tongue images during inference, enabling an audio-lip speech enhancement student model to learn from a pre-trained audio-lip-tongue speech enhancement teacher model. Experimental results demonstrate significant improvements in the quality and intelligibility of the speech enhanced by the proposed method compared to the traditional audio-lip speech enhancement baselines. Further analysis using phone error rates (PER) of automatic speech recognition (ASR) shows that palatal and velar consonants benefit most from the introduction of ultrasound tongue images.【15】 P-vectors: A Parallel-Coupled TDNN/Transformer Network for Speaker Verification标题:P-向量:一种用于说话人确认的并行耦合TDNN/变换网络链接:https://arxiv.org/abs/2305.14778作者:Xiyuan wang,Fangyuan Wang,Bo Xu,Liang Xu,Jing Xiao机构:Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, School of Future Technology,University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, GammaLab, PingAn OneConnect,PingAn Insurance (Group) Company of China备注:Accepted by INTERSPEECH 2023摘要:通常,时间延迟神经网络(TDNN)和Transformer可以用作说话人验证(SV)的骨干。 Typically, the Time-Delay Neural Network (TDNN) and Transformer can serve as a backbone for Speaker Verification (SV). Both of them have advantages and disadvantages from the perspective of global and local feature modeling. How to effectively integrate these two style features is still an open issue. In this paper, we explore a Parallel-coupled TDNN/Transformer Network (p-vectors) to replace the serial hybrid networks. The p-vectors allows TDNN and Transformer to learn the complementary information from each other through Soft Feature Alignment Interaction (SFAI) under the premise of preserving local and global features. The self-supervised training of these models leads to universal speech representations that can be used for different downstream tasks, ranging from automatic speech recognition (ASR) to speaker identification. Recently, Whisper, a transformer-based model was proposed and trained on large amount of weakly supervised data for ASR; it outperformed several state-of-the-art self-supervised models. Given the superiority of Whisper for ASR, in this paper we explore the transferability of the representation for four other speech tasks in SUPERB benchmark. Moreover, we explore the robustness of Whisper representation for ``in the wild'' tasks where speech is corrupted by environment noise and room reverberation. This work helps improve the restoration of sound recordings having fairly long local disturbances or dropouts, which must be reconstructed.【2】 Music Representing Corpus Virtual: An Open Sourced Library for Explorative Music Generation, Sound Design, and Instrument Creation with Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning标题:代表虚拟语料库的音乐:一个开源的库,用于探索性音乐生成、声音设计和使用人工智能和机器学习的乐器创作链接:https://arxiv.org/abs/2305.14948作者:Christopher Johann Clarke机构:In Fulfillment of The National Arts Council Creation Grant, National Arts Council, Singapore备注:16 pages摘要:Music Representing Corpus Virtual(MRCV)是一个开源软件套件,旨在探索人工智能(AI)和机器学习(ML)在音乐生成,声音设计和虚拟乐器创作(MGSDIC)中的功能。 Music Representing Corpus Virtual (MRCV) is an open source software suite designed to explore the capabilities of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) in Music Generation, Sound Design, and Virtual Instrument Creation (MGSDIC). Our approach maps source and target language speech signals into automatically discovered, discrete units and reformulates the problem as unsupervised unit-to-unit machine translation. We develop a three-step training procedure that involves (a) pre-training an unit-based encoder-decoder language model with a denoising objective (b) training it with word-by-word translated utterance pairs created by aligning monolingual text embedding spaces and (c) running unsupervised backtranslation bootstrapping off of the initial translation model. Our approach avoids mapping the speech signal into text and uses speech-to-unit and unit-to-speech models instead of automatic speech recognition and text to speech models. This allows for interactive dynamic control and the generation of novel sounds in an intuitive manner. We demonstrate the practical implementation of our method and explore its potential creative applications.【15】 ComSL: A Composite Speech-Language Model for End-to-End Speech-to-Text Translation标题:ComSL:一种端到端语音到文本翻译的复合语音语言模型链接:https://arxiv.org/abs/2305.14838*与cs.SD语音【8】为同一篇作者:Chenyang Le,Yao Qian,Long Zhou,Shujie Liu,Michael Zeng,Xuedong Huang机构:Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China, Microsoft Cloud and AI, Redmond, WA, US, Microsoft Research Asia, Beijing, China, Yanmin Qian摘要:由于对训练数据和GPU消耗的大量需求,以及语音和语言之间的模态差距,联合语音-语言训练具有挑战性。 Joint speech-language training is challenging due to the large demand for training data and GPU consumption, as well as the modality gap between speech and language. We present ComSL, a speech-language model built atop a composite architecture of public pretrained speech-only and language-only models and optimized data-efficiently for spoken language tasks. Particularly, we propose to incorporate cross-modality learning into transfer learning and conduct them simultaneously for downstream tasks in a multi-task learning manner. Our approach has demonstrated effectiveness in end-to-end speech-to-text translation tasks, achieving a new state-of-the-art average BLEU score of 31.5 on the multilingual speech to English text translation task for 21 languages, as measured on the public CoVoST2 evaluation set.【16】 CMOT: Cross-modal Mixup via Optimal Transport for Speech Translation标题:CMOT:语音翻译中基于最优传输的跨模式混合链接:https://arxiv.org/abs/2305.14635*与cs.SD语音【9】为同一篇作者:Yan Zhou,Qingkai Fang,Yang Feng机构:Key Laboratory of Intelligent Information Processing, Institute of Computing Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (ICTCAS), University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China备注:ACL 2023 main conference摘要:端到端语音翻译是将源语言的语音信号翻译成目标语言的文本的任务。 End-to-end speech translation (ST) is the task of translating speech signals in the source language into text in the target language. Experimenting with the IEMOCAP dataset, we demonstrate that our approach outperforms best-reported results using DARTS for SER.【18】 Connecting Multi-modal Contrastive Representations标题:连接多模式对比表征链接:https://arxiv.org/abs/2305.14381*与cs.SD语音【11】为同一篇作者:Zehan Wang,Yang Zhao,Xize Cheng,Haifeng Huang,Jiageng Liu,Li Tang,Linjun Li,Yongqi Wang,Aoxiong Yin,Ziang Zhang,Zhou Zhao机构:Zhejiang University备注:Demos are available at \url{this https URL}摘要:多模态对比表征(MCR)学习旨在将不同的模态编码到语义对齐的共享空间中。 Multi-modal Contrastive Representation (MCR) learning aims to encode different modalities into a semantically aligned shared space. Remarkably, without using any paired audio-visual data and further tuning, C-MCR achieves state-of-the-art performance on six datasets across three audio-visual downstream tasks.【19】 Zero-shot personalized lip-to-speech synthesis with face image based voice control标题:基于人脸图像语音控制的Zero-Shot个性化唇语合成链接:https://arxiv.org/abs/2305.14359*与cs.SD语音【12】为同一篇作者:Zheng-Yan Sheng,Yang Ai,Zhen-Hua Ling机构:National Engineering Research Center of Speech and Language Information Processing, University of Science and Technology of China, Hefei, P.R.China备注:ICASSP 2023摘要:唇语音合成(Lip2Speech),预测相应的语音从说话的人脸图像,已经见证了显着的进展,各种模型和训练策略在一系列的独立研究。 Lip-to-Speech (Lip2Speech) synthesis, which predicts corresponding speech from talking face images, has witnessed significant progress with various models and training strategies in a series of independent studies. To our best knowledge, this paper makes the first attempt on zero-shot personalized Lip2Speech synthesis with a face image rather than reference audio to control voice characteristics.
